Rites of Sanctuary holds the distinction of being one of the biggest seasonal updates to Diablo III ever and has had more engagement by players during the public testing period than we have ever had in years prior. ![]() Prepare yourselves for a journey to mysterious ruins deep in the Festering Woods with Season 28: Rites of Sanctuary going live on February 24 at 5 p.m. Playing as a hero from one of five distinct character classes, players will acquire powerful items, spells, and abilities as they explore new and familiar areas of Sanctuary and battle hordes of demons to safeguard the world from the horrors that have arisen. Mephisto, Diablo, and Baal have been defeated, but the Worldstone, which once shielded the inhabitants of the world of Sanctuary from the forces of both the High Heavens and the Burning Hells, has been destroyed, and evil once again stirs in Tristram. In Diablo III, players will return to Sanctuary to confront evil in its many forms once again.ĭiablo III will pick up the story twenty years after the events of Diablo II. And most of the others have buried their haunted memories and pushed the horrors from their thoughts. ![]() Most of those warriors who directly faced Hell’s armies - and were fortunate enough to survive - went mad from their experiences. Unbeknownst to most of its inhabitants, Sanctuary was saved some twenty years ago from the demonic forces of the underworld by a few brave and powerful heroes. The game takes place on Sanctuary, a world of dark fantasy. As these heroes adventure through rich and varied settings, unraveling an epic storyline and engaging in combat with hordes of monsters and challenging bosses, they’ll grow in experience and ability and acquire items of incredible power. Players will create a hero from one of five distinct classes, such as barbarian or witch doctor, each equipped with an array of spells and abilities. Returning seasonal themes may mean returning rewards, with a chance to snag something missed in past seasons! We’re approaching a new phase of life for Diablo 3 and don’t quite know what the future holds. Estimate a one week PTR, as that “less rich” theme will hopefully mean less moving parts to try out. It’s safe to anticipate another PTR, as Season 29 will have a unique theme that will potentially require testing. PTR dates have marked the initial “last call” for the current season in the past. This covers our presumed Season 28 end date and leads us to the Augestimate. The length estimate is new the start and end days have been fixed onto a Friday/Sunday cycle since Season 12. It became the longest season in D3‘s history with a run time of 25 weeks and 2 days, comparable to Diablo 2 Legacy‘s ladder seasons.īased on Season 27, let’s assume D3 maintenance mode seasons will kick off 26 weeks apart, with a Friday start and a Sunday end. The season started on Augand ended on February 19, 2023. Season 27’s length may have already set us up for success here. If we maintain a similar expectation for Diablo 3, we must look at the start and (projected) end dates for Season 28. ![]() Previously, we based future season start and end dates on past season lengths, but we’ve expected Diablo 3 to go into maintenance mode after the upcoming release of Diablo 4. So when does Season 29 start? Our guess is Friday, August 24, 2023. Specifically, we will have a unique (although “less rich than Season 28”) theme for Diablo 3 Season 29, and past themes will be revisited starting in Season 30. In a Diablo 4 PR event, the Blizzard team included a delightful tidbit regarding future Diablo 3 seasons. ![]()
